Austria is preparing to celebrate Mozart’s 250th birthday January 27th.
The occasion will be celebrated for a week in his hometown Salzburg with special Mozart concerts and other activities. But that’s not all, throughout the year there will be additional concerts, masses, and operas.
Mozart was not only a wonder boy, and one of the greatest composers ever, he was also a frequent traveler. During his short life he visited over 200 European cities!
Salzburg is a strikingly beautiful city set in the mountains with amazing scenery and great architecture. It is also a great place for skiing, and hanging out. But if you don’t already have reservations, don’t even think about visiting it for the Mozart week. The place is booked solid.
The Chicago Sun-Times is writing about Mozart’s birthday celebrations in an article in today’s paper:
Amadeus aficionados will have hundreds of events to choose from in other cities too, including New York, Paris, Berlin, London and Prague. On Jan. 27, New York’s Metropolitan Opera will present a revival of last season’s new Julie Taymor production of “The Magic Flute” and the New York Philharmonic will debut a three-week “Magic of Mozart” tribute.
