Luigi Di Serio has ranked the top 15 city skylines in the world on his website. His ranking seems quite fair and on the money. Number one is Hong Kong, followed by Chicago, Shanghai, New York, Tokyo and 10 more (3 honorable mentions). It will be interesting to see what will happen within the next few years. My suspicion is that Shanghai might outcompete the American cities, even if New York will build the Freedom Tower and Chicago the Calatrava Spire.
