Today Cambodia is celebrating Independence Day. It became independent from France on November 9th,1953.

Cambodia has already for several years been a rising star in the world of tourism. And it continues to offer better and more accommodations and services as old infrastructure is being improved and new is added. It might no longer be the secret it used to be, but despite its growing popularity it still offers not only an excellent value but many serene beaches and almost untouched nature. But of course many of its most popular destinations have developed into bustling centers of leisure entertainment, and all that comes with it.

Cambodia has a very distinct charm that is based on a combination of culture, historic sites, a tropical climate, lush jungles, beautiful beaches, and a local population that is friendly, kind, and welcoming.

The country offers many interesting areas to explore, for instance:
Angkor Wat – fascinating ancient temples, center of the old Khmer empire
Siem Reap – tourist town next door to Angkor Wat
Phnom Penh – the capital
Sihanoukville – stunningly beautiful, once tranquil sea resort
Kampot and Kep – reborn premium resorts from the French colonial era
