Now Innsbruck has a new train route, the Nordpark, which takes passengers from the city center 1,000 feet upwards to the mountains. From the last station passengers can then switch to a cable car to get all the way to the summit, which is at a height of 7,644 feet.
The Nordpark stations have been designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid. The Congress Station is located downtown at over 1,837 feet and there are three more stations before you reach the end station at 2,822 feet.
The stations have a dramatic look to them and complement the surrounding mountain views.
Zaha Hadid is not new to Innsbruck. The Bergisel Ski Jump, which opened in Innsbruck in 2002, was also designed by her. And she has also designed a train station at least in one other city: The High Speed Train Station, Napoli-Afragola, Italy.
