NEW TRAVEL COMPANION: KINDLE BY AMAZON

Kindle

Travelers have been facing a dilemma with books. Books would be great to have on the road, but they are too heavy to lug around. Therefore the visions of future products like digital paper and e-books have been intriguing already for years, but the market has not seen any significant products available yet.

Kindle

Not until today that is. Today Amazon.com finally introduced its long awaited Kindle wireless reading device.

The Kindle has a sharp, high-resolution screen that Amazon claims looks and reads like real paper. You can buy a book and it is auto-delivered wirelessly in less than one minute. More than 90,000 books, blogs, magazines, and newspapers are available, including 100 of 112 current New York Times Best Sellers. It holds over 200 titles, and weighs 10.3 ounces. Its batteries need re-charging every other day (re-charges in 2 hours).

Its wireless connectivity does not require wifi, it utilizes the same high-speed data network (EVDO) as advanced cell phones. Wireless service is free, provided by Amazon.

Quite an interesting device and welcome news for travelers. One question though is the size of the screen: Is it big enough to allow for comfortable reading?

The Kindle is in stock and shipping today for $399

Go to the Amazon.com website for more information where you also can check out a video about the Kindle.
