Unfortunately, at U.S. Customs, it's almost as bad for Americans (especially if you don't fit the typecast) as for foreigners. These border agents/guards, whatever you call them, are a disgrace. Rude, crude and nasty is the rule, not the exception. When traveling overseas, I almost expect other countries to be the same way, but they are usually professional and polite in the several foreign countries that I have visited. This being uncivil problem in the U.S. has been going on for decades and nobody in charge has improved things much, assuming they even tried (and that's assuming a lot).

I stayed at Six Senses Zighy Bay and it was the best hotel experience I have had in years. The whole place is just pure rustic chic. Amazing food and service, the villa's are to die for, the beach white sand. It really is worth every penny and more.

Dear Sir/Madame,

You are announcing in this site a link for a ticket scalper (www.rio-carnival.net) that, illegally, commercializes tickets and costumes for Sambódromo, in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil.
Many companies, as ours, are prejudiced for practices as this, because we pay our imposed while these people work on the illegality and some, however few, sites endorse these illegal practices.
We just ask to ascertain, at least, the number of register in EMBRATUR (responsible Brazilian organ for the tourism regulation) and CNPJ (number of Brazilian companies cadaster) before keep announcing sites as the rio-carnival.net.

There needs to be strict hiring standards for immigration and customs officials. Only people with very long and extensive experience in customer service / relations should be allowed to be hired. Trust me....there are 10's of thousands of QUALIFIED customer-oriented people out there who could do the easy job of being an immigration officer or customs officer. I really don't know why most immigration and customs officers act like jerks...perhaps our government encourages it....which is stupid, since a country's initial impression is done by these people. The US government needs to do something IMMEDIATELY to improve the immigration/visa/customs experience, as foreign travel to the US is so important to our reputation and economy. We can still be secure, but go about it in a more positive way. Seeing how rude the the US is to foreign travelers makes me ashamed and embarrassed to be an American.
Perhaps crusieship and Disney employees being hired to do the job of the current immigration and customs officers is the best way to improve the entire process.

I'm surprised how much play this story is getting considering how little evidence there is that this is little more than someone's joke design project for fun. Especially when there is another, more legitimate company like Bigelow Aerospace that also intends on having a private space station by 2012 but can back that up with TWO test modules actually in space and actually has a manufacturing facility.

I mean, the reporter takes their word for it when they say some American who they can't name is giving them $3 billion. I figure I could got to the same reporter and say someone is giving me a couple billion to build the world's biggest saussage and it will make the headlines the next day.

Not sure how much competition to Bigelow they really are, and I also have doubts about their $3 billion funding figure. I think we need more proof than their word.

Bigelow has:

- A manufacturing plans currently building the modules for its stations

- A corporate structure

- Two test modules currently in space

- A concrete business plan

- More than 100 employees

Galactic Suite has:

- A Web site with nice illustrations. Though its strange title font looks like it was done in Microsoft Paint.

This seems like little more than a nice Web site and fancy illustrations. Galactic Suite also seems to indicate it would use the Space Shuttle for construction, which would be news to NASA, which plans to put the orbiters in the Smithsonian by 2010.

Seems like more vaporware to me. I'd rather put my money on Bigelow to build the first private space station.

Bigelow put up some cool, REAL pictures from space on this page: http://bigelowaerospace.com/out_there/view_photos.php.

Rory your comment is a classic case of the pot calling the kettle black. There is simply no justification at all for the behaviour of the bulk US immigration officials. If they're underpaid then lobby your government instead of taking it out of visiting travellers. The perception of their bad behaviour is almost universal in blogs and surveys. It really reflects very badly on your country (as your remarks reflect very badly on yourself).

I'd always been well disposed to Americans and America in the past, excusing the occasional behaviour of the loud Yank as an aberration. I'm rapidly changing my mind and have started wondering if the attitude of the average American to other people (you know, those you and your kind dismiss as foreigners) is just typical of your arrogant hubris.
